18TH AUGUST, 2018 PENRHYN CASTLE, BANGOR, WALES
We travelled north towards Bangor and visited Penryhn Castle. From Wiki - "The present building was created between about 1822 and 1837 to designs by Thomas Hopper, who expanded and transformed the building beyond recognition. Hopper's client was George Hay Dawkins-Pennant, who had inherited the Penrhyn estate on the death of his second cousin, Richard Pennant, who had made his fortune from slavery in Jamaica and local slate quarries."
Whilst it was an amazing building the fact that it was built from his slavery fortune and Queen Victoria visited there detracted from it.
We stayed for a couple of nights in Bangor which has a long pier - here are some pics from the pier:
