Finally....

I have finally hung my paintings - though I'll have to find a new home for them as both on one wall is a little too much...

Daggy me shot by my son and I'm looking at my other son...

I finally found my list of photo numbers so I can upload some more....

Kookaburra on top of Sarmarie's painting...

Finally I get time to upload pics and the boys are complaining about the internet speed...sheesh...I'll upload some more tomorrow...

Finally went to the art shop and bought four more canvasses today and have started one...so will post pics when finished....

Finally did some more of my 27 Dresses journal and have only a few more to go then I will be finished.

Finally my 3 day headache left me today which is great for painting the big canvasses but not so good for the 27 Dresses journal which I may do more of tonight.

Finally a productive day...  :D

Flora Bowley

The Flora Bowley Painting Workshop at Nanga, Dwellingup in Western Australia last weekend was totally amazing. Flora and the seven other ladies who attended were all beautiful, giving, creative and talented people who I am so grateful to have met and feel so blessed to have had this experience with.

Flora's painting are abstract, intuitve imagery, full of colour, energy and layers.  These are the painting Flora created over the weekend and it was so wonderful to watch the process unfold and turn into something so stunning.

Me with Flora and Donna Heart.

More photos of Flora are on my deviant art site: http://aussiesheilasunsets.deviantart.com/gallery/

My paintings have more of a geometrical rather than flowing feel.  I'm looking forward to creating more paintings and loosening up in my style and being more free and daring and not so precious with my paintings.

June 8th...Update....if you have visited my blog and have been to a Flora Bowley workshop and have blogged about it then I'd love you to leave me a link as I love to see what others have created through Flora's workshop.  Thanks Michelle.

Come Away with Me

I'm off to the Flora Bowley painting workshop down at Nanga this morning...been excited for 6 weeks.  :D

On Tuesday night I went to life drawing classes and we worked on shape, I mixed charcoal and chalk to get some greys.
I also finished off another crakle leaf painting this week.

Crackle Gum Leaves.

Have a great weekend everyone, back next week with some pics from the workshop.

Take care, Sox.

Crackle Paste at Monday Morning Art Group

Each Monday morning I go to a community based art group.  There's about 5 regulars and we show up with our work in progresses and get on with it, calling out for help whenever we need it or for an opinion when required.  We have a group co-ordinator/teacher which was me last year but not this year, but we all teach and learn from each other.  We all bounce ideas off of each other and inspire each other too.

A fortnight ago I showed the group the background for this painting and we discussed which way round it should go and I told them which way round I was thinking and then Sandra suggested the city outline, which I did in charcoal.  I've come to love this painting.

Reflections of a City

This week I worked with another lady showing her how to add inks to crackle paste: using a water bottle spray the crackle paste area and then drop inks onto the crackle paste.  You may need to spray more water or use paper towel to mop up excess, and use a paintbrush or tilt the board to move the inks around.  I'm thinking of making a video on how to do this as what I've seen on youtube about crackle paste is dreadful.

Broken Hearted
Crackle paste is expensive but you never how it's going to crack or how the inks are going to spread out.  I absolutely love this technique, it is so much fun to do.  Give it a go and let me know how it turns out  :D .

5:30pm Update:  just added the background colour and gloss varnish to these leaves.

Sculptures by the Sea

Yesterday, after visiting my niece and giving her the collage I created for her:

Lady Alysha
we went down to Cottesloe Beach to see the Sculptures by the Sea.  Here's a few that I liked:
And we watched the sun go down over Rottnest Island.
After photographing my sunset every night for my deviantart site for over a year now I have finally got a beach sunset.  :D

Flora Bowley 'Bloom True' workshop next Friday.

Yes, I am excited to be going to this 3 day workshop at Dwellingup which is about an hour and a half from me.  It's going to be great to meet other arty and creative people, learn new techniques, have lots of fun and just getaway from the normal routine of things.

Over the past couple of days I've been working on some more dresses for my 27 Dresses art journal:

The Moulin Rouge "Come what may, I will love you until my dying day"

White Oleander "You're either an artist or you're not.  You are.
Black Swan "The only person standing in your way is you."

Keep or Paint Over?

That is the question with this next painting.  I've done a series of paintings using a brayer/roller for the background and have collaged a house onto one of them and the others have black outlines.  Each night before I go to bed I open the room in which my art stuff lives and look at my recent work and the more I look at this one the more I like it.

I've started a KRR style girlie collage for my niece A who is still laid up in bed after having a car accident about a month ago...so here's a sneak preview...you'll need a good imagination and you may want to check out my other girlie collages on my deviantart site to have some idea of the finished product.  We are going to visit A tomorrow so I need to work on the face, hair and touch up the background too.

How do you create your art?

My online art buddy, Lin, asked me how I made the pages in the 27 Dresses art journal, so I said I would put up some pics to explain how.

This is the book I am using:

For this page I sponged on acrylic blue and green paint, for Pretty in Pink and Fried Green Tomatoes I washed on acrylic paint and covered it in crinkled glad wrap and let it dry.
I then painted in a washing line (which was Lin's great idea) and glued on the dresses and the paper napkin butterflies using Golden's soft gel matte medium.

Then I added some final touches to the dresses using acrylic paints and pens, and then wrote the words.

The Blue Dahlia - I know I have a lot of faults but being in love with you isn't one of them, is it?

The Purple Rose of Cairo " I just met a wonderful man.  He's fictional but you can't have everything!"

27 Dresses

Back in June 2010 I cut out a heap of dresses to turn into a wedding scene collage.  Yesterday I thought that I would collage them into an art journal and today decided to base it on the movie title 27 Dresses and have each page based on a movie title with a colour theme and a quote from the movie.

Pretty In Pink "You said you couldn't be with someone who didn't believe in you. Well, I believed in you. I just didn't believe in me. I love you...always."

Fried Green Tomatoes "I found out that the secret of life is: Friends. Best Friends."

First Post

I'm having a hard time working all this out.  Will all the effort be worth it?  Most of it doesn't make sense.  I'd like to add my own background image,  I'd like some tabs below the title: Home About Gallery...I'll work it out later, time to go have some lunch and do the ironing....

Here's a photo of last night's sunset...

8th June 2011 Update....many people are reading this first post which I realise now is quite boring....if you have visited my blog and have been to a Flora Bowley workshop and have blogged about it then I'd love you to leave me a link as I love to see what others have created through Flora's workshop.

I started this blog to connect with other artists and to show off the process of my art which I find interesting in other artists work.  I'd love to read your comments and visit your blog too.

Thanks, Michelle.
