Gelli Print Truth Cards

I have made lots of truth cards from my gelli prints for the Brave Girls Club to send out to people around the world - to women's refuges, to victims of natural disasters and human trafficking.  Why?  Well, read them and tell me how they make you feel?

Not only were they great fun to make but they were very uplifting as well - imagine saying all these encouraging words over and over again which is what happens when you create them.

If you would like to make some to send to the Brave Girls Club, or for yourself, a teenage girl in your life or a friend who might need them then you will find the instructions here.

I used some left over pieces of gelli prints, rolled some paint onto the back of them, added some stamps and some sticker borders too.  They are finished for now but I may get out my paints and add a bit more detail to them.

This is also a great activity to do with your teenage daughter.....

Do you have a favourite one?  I do.  ;D

Gelli Prints on Arty Fridays

Arty Farty Fridays!

This week I have been having a lot of fun making more gelli prints and dreamcatchers/mobiles with feathers and flowers.

This print was created on black paper and I used the bubble/circle stencil.

Each print is unique, even if I used the same colours/stencils etc it would turn out differently - and this is what I love about the gelli plate. Each person who uses it creates unique prints. You can borrow stencil/mask ideas from others but colour combinations, paint left on your plate even, how hard you press down on the plate when making the print all help to make a print different to someone elses.

I'm particularly enjoying making these gelli print dream catchers/mobiles as I haven't seen them any where else on the internet. I've taken an old idea and used a new tool and technique to create a new piece of art.  What's been great is there have been no others to compare mine too so that squashes the comparison monster.  I also know that if people do make them (and please do) then theirs will look different to mine.

I've tried different types of paper too - black cardstock, brown paper bags, greaseproof/tracing paper and freezer go-between (which didn't last as the dry paint comes off too easily - so covered it in clear adhesive), old book pages and old maps.

Hope you have a great weekend.

Gelli Print Dream Catcher

I created a Dream Catcher today using some of the gelli prints I made last week.

Update:  I added a little more paint to my dream catchers to make them stand out a little more.

Use a print which has been printed on both sides.  Find a 20cm/8 in plate to use as a template.  I cut out my circle first but next time I will paint the extra lines/decorations before I cut it out. To decide which patterns I would use on the dream catchers I did a practice run in an art journal - great to use for mendalas or zentangles too.

Gelli Arts have made an awesome round gelli plate which would be perfect for this but I don't have one - yet!

To create the feathers I referred to this Julie Fei-Fan Balzer blogpost. Once again it's best to use a double sided print, which I will do next time, and try using alternate papers too such as book pages or deli paper, these finer papers make great feathers. I cut out the feather shape, glued down some wire I bought at the craft shop, then cut the slits on an angle.

There are so many alternate things you can do to jazz up your dream catcher. You could add more prints or more dangles/feathers/beads.  You could even turn it into a mobile for a child's room...ooh I wonder how doilies would print on the gelli plate?  Hmmm....so many ideas...not enough time!!!

I have mine hanging in my kitchen just because there are several hooks already in the ceiling. Here's both sides (the feathers should have been a double sided print but this was just a test run to see how it goes and it went ok I think, the lines of the decorations should be thicker/darker too) hanging...

So, what do you think?  If you make some let me know as I'd love to see how they look! And if you'd like more ideas on what to do with gelli prints then check out these posts.

Arty Friday

Arty Farty Fridays!!!

I've been playing in my art journal this week and whilst waiting for paint to dry I played with my gelli plate too!  I seem to make many backgrounds in my art journal but then draw a blank as what to do next...

Do you art journal?  Do you just sit down and create a whole page in one sitting?  Or do you make lots of backgrounds first?  Do you know where the page is going from the beginning?  Or do you create it intuitively as you go along?

I had fun playing with my new stencils and paint colours on the gelli plate.

The photos show both sides of the paper.  I'm not too sure what I'm going to do with these sheets but I was thinking of making a book and then I'll use it as a journal....

I really like how some of these pages turned out - usually by accident...

It will be fun to add a few more layers to some of these too.

How's your week been?  Hope you have managed to find time for some art too.
