Art Journal Challenges

Documented Life Project:

Week Eight - Add a flap to your flap.  I used an envelope that was sent to me with 'happy, art mail' in it and the quote was from another bundle of 'happy, art mail'.

Week Nine - Collage something you recycled. I recycled the gelli print and the butterflies I created from some 'happy, art mail' that I've received.

Journal 52 - Week 8 - Found Poetry

This Week’s Prompt: Found Poetry

"For this week’s prompt, we will explore found poetry. Whether you decide to write a haiku or a sonnet or a freestyle poem – all depends on what you can find to make poetry out of!"

I created a Haiku out of magazine words.

The truth about love,
Paradise, blossomed, savoured
Not so naughty sex.

bahahahahahahahahaha.......

Nothing brilliant here as I've been concentrating on my gelli plate printing and my girls this month.

Hippy Girl for 29 Faces

I decided to gelli print the background of today's girl  - she took around 3 hours to create.

Hippy Chick - 21 of 29 Faces - created on watercolour paper with watercolour crayons/pencils, acrylics, paint pens, and gelli print hat and top.

Does the painted background make the painting look too busy? Or finished?

Gelli print hat/hair girls...

Days 12 and 13 29 Faces

Day 12 I created during Karen Milstein's Simply Painting Faces class using new techniques for me.  I didn't achieve Karen's messy look but she turned out ok.

Day 13 I created on watercolour paper with watercolour crayons/pencils, paint pens with gelli print hat and clothes.

I found a photo on Pinterest of Ava Gardner wearing this big black hat so I used her hat and clothes as inspiration for my lady.

PS  Do you love creating gelli prints?  Want a place to discuss gelli printing?  To show off your work?  Share your ideas? Discuss the pros and cons of different paints/paper/plates/tools etc?  Get some great ideas on what to do with the thousands of prints you have created?

Then I would love you to join me at the Gelatin Printing Enthusiasts Facebook Group.

Hexie Love for DLP Week 7

The Documented Life Project Challenge (Week Seven) - Draw one shape - repeat - add color.

I love hexagons so I did a hexagon gelli print onto my watercolour paper tip-in for this week.  I then had some gelli print fun with scrunched up greaseproof/deli paper on the plate. I turned the print over and used my hexagon stencil and drew lots of hexagons and then glued them to the page and outlined them with gold and black paint pen.

29 Faces Day 7, 8 and 9

Day 7 - I tried some new techniques and new tools combining pastels, watercolour crayons, watercolour pencils, gesso, acrylics, paint pens...

Day 8 - I decided to collage gelli print to the girl for a headscarf as I couldn't decide on hair.

Day 9 I decided to collage a gelli print on as hair and a headband too.

I have been trying different watercolour papers and some can with stand more layers and acrylic paint better than others....

Abstract Landscape Gelli Prints

As I mentioned earlier this week I've been playing around with scrunched up wax paper on the gelli plate and I've been making some landscapes on larger sheets of paper.

It's all experimental and a learning process.  When working on larger sheets and trying to create a picture you need to be aware of where the plate will go the paper and where the paint ends - there were times I created some straight edges when I didn't want them.

I also used another sheet of paper - usually deli/greaseproof paper for masking out areas on the plate and for making non straight/interesting lines.

The left over wax paper sheets (top) made for some great art as did the sheets of deli/greaseproof paper (bottom) I used to pull off the leftover paint.

Sometimes it worked and sometimes I added too many layers but like usual with the gelli plate I was surprised at the results and had such great fun I felt really cheered up afterwards - the healing powers of art.

Sending you all lots of love and hugs and positive vibes for fun and arty weekend.  <3

29 Faces Days 4 and 5

Days 4 and 5 I created on watercolour paper with watercolour crayons and acrylic paint using the gelli plate for the background print (scrunched wax paper technique).

Day 4:
Day 5:

I haven't been feeling too well over the last couple of days and it shows in my art.  Though playing with my gelli plate yesterday cheered me and I'll show you those results tomorrow.

Gelli Prints for Journal 52

Journal 52 Week 5 Prompt: Abstract Art Inspiration

I had an awesome time yesterday playing with my gelli plate and creating some great prints by scrunching up wax paper, laying it on the plate, removing and then pressing my page on.

Here are some of the other prints I created:

And here's on of the pieces of wax paper:

I'm thinking of creating more of these but on a larger scale!!!

29 Faces Days 2 and 3

Day 2 face - I created using watercolour paper with acrylic and ink washes then covered in glad/saran wrap to dry.  Black paint pen for the face lines.

Day 3 - I created this face in a new art journal and the paper is not really suitable for watercolour crayons, I changed to a soft brush to avoid ruining the paper. Then I outlined the face in black paint pen.

DLP Wk 6

Documented Life Project - February 1 Challenge (Week Six) -  Open your Pinterest board and be inspired.*
*Please make sure that you CREDIT the artist or blogger that you are being inspired by - this is very important so that we honor the efforts and property of our fellow artists and bloggers.

An artwork titled Boxed In by Original Bliss on Flickr aka Shannan Sinclair caught my eye so I thought I would re-create my own version using my tip-in page from my DLP Journal, black pen, stamps, scrapbooking papers, gelli prints, stickers - some were from some Happy/Art Mail I received on Friday so it was great to be able to use them.

I'm looking forward to the next DLP challenge but in the meantime I have Journal52 and 29 Faces challenges to work on.  Yay!!!

29 Faces Challenge Day 1

Ayala Art started her 29 Faces Challenge yesterday and I created a face yesterday so I thought I'd join in on the challenge - to create a face per day using any size, style, technique, medium, material or surface.

I was so inspired by Tamara Laporte from Willowing's recent girl that I created my own.

I used watercolour paper and crayons, acrylic paints, inks, paint pens, and gelli printing.

Here's one I created last week....

Have a great weekend....
