Meet Miss Victoria

Meet Miss Victoria sho has traveled to Beverley for the Beverley Art Exhibition this weekend.

Miss Victoria
Mixed Media on Wooden Cradled Panel
42cm x 30cm = 16 1/2" x 12"
This is the first girl I have created on a wooden panel and it was great.  Canvas panels have give and air bubbles can be more troublesome but the wooden panel is hard and easier to get the bubbles out of.
Her face and hair was created on watercolour paper using watersoluble pastel and oil crayons and acrylic paint.  The background is acid free tissue paper which has been scrunched and Gelli® printed.  Her clothes and hat are Gelli® prints too.
She is available for sale at the exhibition.

Art Sale at Myattsfield Vineyard

Had a great weekend selling my paintings, pendants and Gelli Art prints at Myattsfield Vineyard.  The weather was glorious which encouraged hundreds of people to come to the Bickley Harvest Festival to view the scarecrows, art, crafts and sample the extremely yummy wine.

I love speaking to people about my paintings and my latest addiction of Gelli Art printing.  Whilst I didn't sell any paintings I received lots of encouraging, positive feedback and my artwork was seen by loads of people including children who loved my fishies, my butterfly painting, the bright confetti trees and a little boy was fascinated with my snail painting - he stood there looking at it with his arm in the air tracing the spirals of the nautilus shell. Too cute.

I have plenty of pendants left over and will upload them to the blog and Facebook so if you want to buy any of them then please get in contact with me to sort out the details.

Well, I must go and unpack my car and do some boring housework.  Many thanks to all my family and friends who came along and to all the people who took the time to view my art and have a chat with me.  Hope your weekend went well, take care.

Here are some more of my blogs about my gelli art.

Gelli Plate Art Addiction Pt3

On Friday I created some more shapes using the self adhesive contact paper and then I just had to try them out....

Now I have so many of these prints I really must 'finish' them off and get them to sell at the Myattsfield Vineyard for the Bickley Harvest Festival - several thousand people are expected come along for the wine tasting and scarecrow competition!!!

Here are some more of my blogs about my gelli art.

ETA:
Do you love creating gelli prints?  Want a place to discuss gelli printing?  To show off your work?  Share your ideas? Discuss the pros and cons of different paints/paper/plates/tools etc?  Get some great ideas on what to do with the thousands of prints you have created?

Then I would love you to join me at the Gelatin Printing Enthusiasts Facebook Group. This group is open to people who use a Gelli Arts Plate or who make their own gelatin plate.

Emerging Artists' Exhibition Opening Night

Last night was the esordio>debut>beginning exhibition Opening Night at the Zig Zag Gallery in Kalumunda.  It was also two years ago to the day that I went down to Nanga, Dwellingup to the Flora Bowley Bloom True Art Workshop.  I had five paintings on display and I sold one and received some positive feedback so it was a great night.  Many thanks to Marilyn Keys and the staff at the Zig Zag Cultural Centre Art gallery for this great opportunity.

Here are some pics:

The five paintings:

Memories from two years ago:

Top Left - Me with Flora and Donna Heart.
Top right - Flora with the paintings she created over that weekend.
Bottom Left - 'Follow Your Passion' 30" x 40" 76cm x 101cm
Bottom right - 'Live Your Dream' 30' x 30' 76cm x 76cm

These were the biggest paintings I had ever created at the time, originally I hated them as they didn't look like Flora's or a typical Flora style painting but I came to love them and am glad that I have my own style of painting.  Flora's workshop opened up my artistic world to one which uses tools other than brushes - foam brushes, kitchen sponge, bubble wrap, rubber matting and other found objects such as lids, corks as well as stencils.

esordio>debut>beginning Exhibition Invite

A couple of months ago I heard about an Emerging Artists' Exhibition so I put on my brave girl boots and rang the gallery and left them my website address. They phoned me back and said yes they'd like me to exhibit so I've been busy painting, varnishing and getting my paintings ready.

The opening night is this Friday, 22nd March at 6:30pm at the Zig Zag Gallery, 50 Railway Road, Kalamunda.

Do not miss the wonderful opportunity to view the works of these emerging artists at

Yesterday I wrapped up my paintings and dropped them at the gallery.

On Tuesday I wrapped up two paintings to go to the Beverley Art Show which will be held over the Easter Weekend.

So I've been busy and it's all been happening here which is all very exciting as well as scary and nerve-wracking.  Wish me luck, all the best, send out positive vibes and good ju-ju that I sell a couple of my babies, oops I mean paintings.

Six Thoughts on Sunday

1. Well, it's not Sunday here but Monday but it's still Sunday in the States.  :D

2.  Life has been busy and things have been happening here. Settling into a new routine and lifestyle, making changes for the better even though I don't want to. The reason for these changes is that my hubby and I are off to Europe in late May for a few months riding around on our motorbike.  We've been saving and planning this for years as a 25th Wedding Anniversary present.

3. I got my haircut - the shortest it's been in 10 years!  It will be much easier to manage short -it won't get tangled so much and it will be quicker to wash and dry.

4.  I've also cut down on sugars and am drinking rosehip tea and doing the C25K - Couch to 5 kms app on the iphone.  I've always been more of a bookworm than an exercise nut so the running is really hard for me - hate it in fact.  Good news is I've lost 4kgs/8.8lb!!! I still have another 4-6kgs to go before we leave on our trip.  Eeek!

5.  I applied to a local gallery having an Emerging Artists Exhibition and was accepted.  I've created 2 new paintings for the exhibition and part of one of them is above and am creating another hexagonal fish painting.  Here's part of it - decided to do some long fish this time - and some have accidental lips and smiles.  :D

6.  I'm thinking about organising an art retreat to connect with other artists....just thinking at this stage....

Have a great week...I'm hoping the Gelli Arts Plate that I ordered arrives today so I shall be back later this week showing you all the different pages I've made.

Reflections on 2012

Wow, 2012 is over and it's nearly time to think about my goals and plans and word for 2013.

Looking back over some blogposts I wrote in early January 2012 about my plans/dreams/schemes for this year I can see that sometimes we just don't have enough time to do all the things we'd like to do.

The highlight of the year was my American Adventure and my art classes at Squam with Kelly Barton and Sarah Ahearn.  I had an awesome time meeting up with some online arty friends too.

I was part of the 30x30x30 Challenge Exhibition and completed 30 paintings in 30 days and sold 21.

I also joined my friend June Stevens for an exhibition and sold two paintings.

I loved the Life Book 2012 online course and my girls have improved....

I learnt so much from going to a local art class each Wednesday with mixed media artist Neil Elliott.

An article I wrote was published!

My word for 2012 was Courage and these are the goals I achieved from the list I wrote in January:

  • To be the real and authentic me
  • To take risks with my creations/art/paintings
  • To live my dreams, follow my passions and create an artistic life
  • To be part of as many exhibitions as possible.
  • To reach out to others, include them in my life and artistic community.
  • To say 'Yes' to opportunities
  • To get my writing and artwork published.
  • To leave the secure environment of my home.
  • To travel to USA, Canada.
  • To travel alone and with friends.
  • To attend a workshop in the States and to make it the most awesome life and learning experience possible.
  • To meet people whom I've never met but whom I know and hold a special place in my heart.

How did your 2012 go?  Have you chosen your word for 2013?  We are doing a blog hop and I'd love for everyone to join in.

Evolution of the Birdbath and Birdcage Paintings

These are the new paintings that I showed at the art show over the weekend. I swore I would never do birdies but right behind me where I was putting on that first layer was an orange tree and a birdbath....

The Birdbath, Acrylic on Canvas, 92cm x 92cm, 36” x 36”

The Birdcage, Acrylic on Canvas, 92cm x 92cm, 36” x 36”
