BlogtoberFest2013 Day 1

Welcome to BlogtoberFest 2013, thank you all for joining in.

Talkative Tuesday - tell us about yourself. (Just a suggestion - you can blog about anything you want!  :D)

This is my view.  I really do live in the bush, in the Perth hills, Western Australia.
In this photo you can see a national park and we get great sunset views as this is a west facing shot.
In 2010 I challenged myself to take a photo of the sunset every night for a whole year and put them onto DeviantArt. And yes, we do have kangaroos in our backyard!

Just a few bits of 'housekeeping' - you only need to pop your blog link into the Linky on the BlogtoberFest 2013 page, you don't need to put a link in each day.

If you need help with adding a button to your blog then try this:

If you are in blogger:

Click on Design, Layout, Add a Gadget.

In the pop up box - scroll down to HTML/Java Script and click on the +

In the Content box copy/paste in the code, then click on Save and then Save Arrangement.

And the button should be on your blog! Let me know if my instructions need more details!

I don't know about any other blog formats though.

I'm looking forward to visiting all your blogs.  :D

Six Thoughts on Saturday

1.  Sunsets - we've had some stunning sunsets this past week as we've had a few clouds that give gorgeous colour.

2. Mixed media art class - on Wednesdays with local artist Neil Elliott.  We are working on an underwater scene and here's my painting now.

3.  Art Journalling - I've started art journalling  for fun and experimentation and to play with some of the goodies I've bought.  I have been watching a lot of art journal videos and I don't have and am unable to get in Australia some of the products being used.  So the challenge is to use the tools I do have and in that way I can make the pages mine. I used to think art journalling was a waste of time because I couldn't sell the end product but this can be liberating and it means you can look at another person art journal and use it for inspiration.

This page was inspired by Donna Downey's Inspiration Wednesday journal from Feb 6th, 2013.

These pages are the beginnings of pages that were inspired by France Papillon's When Was The Last Time journal.  France's page starts with gluing a printed tissue paper which I didn't have so I covered my pre-painted page with sewing pattern.  More to come in the future.

4. Foxes - this morning I saw a fox in our backyard and a few weeks ago at a friend's house we saw one there too.

5. Postage Stamps - I ordered through Ebay some postage stamps to use for art journalling and I'm looking for someone who lives overseas who would like to swap some American or European stamps for some Australian stamps by weight or number.  Please leave a message in the comment section if you are interested, thank you.

6. Confetti Tree with stencilled background - here it is finished:

Here are the progress photos I have shown previously:

Day 14 - 30x30x30 Challenge

One of the biggest challenges is finding time to paint, this is probably true for everyone.  For me, I paint in the kitchen so I have to lug everything out of my small room and grab the canvas out of the study where they are on a table drying, then I can paint.  When I think about all of that I always like to have a couple of hours to work on my canvases which I finally managed to find this afternoon.  Saturday I was busy at morning tea and open studios and afternoon tea at a farewell party and I went to see my son in a play in the evening. I'm never that busy....

Here's a glimpse of some new canvases that I started....

Some beautiful sunsets this week too:

Day 7 - 30x30x30 Challenge

This afternoon I spent a few hours painting my canvases. I have basically finished 4, continued more layers on 8 and started backgrounds on 6 new ones.

Here's the cake I made on Friday - it's a Tim Tam cake from raspberricupcakes' blog - my family said it tasted great....didn't look the best but they loved it so that's what counts....

Beautiful sunsets over the past couple of days:

Hope you are having a great weekend with your family, relaxing and getting in some art time too.

Sunday's Six Thoughts

1.  I've been blogging for a year now, 151 posts, 9571 page views, 544 comments, 84 followers - it's been a lot of fun and it's been great to read other people's blogs and to meet new people.  Thank you all so much for following my blog, for reading and leaving comments - I really appreciate it.

2.  I decided to change the background of the Mean Girl painting and had to begin by re-writing the words, then I will add more sewing pattern paper and a translucent glaze either in purple of blue.

3. Some beautiful sunsets this week...

Last night...

Friday night...

4.  Tomorrow is a public holiday here in Perth for Labor Day but my hubby is off to work for a few hours to get some work done whilst no one is there and my sons have to go to Uni so I'm home alone again - I guess I'll paint....  :D

5.  Very hot here - about 37C/100F - great weather for swimming in our pool.

6. I have a new button on my blog and will make a big announcement about on Tuesday!!!

Have a great weekend everyone, enjoy your art and take some great photos.
