Germany Pt 2 - West

On Wednesday, 24th July, we left Berlin and headed towards the Harz Mountains.  We stopped overnight in Osterode am Harz.

On Thursday, 25th July, we headed to Recke-Steinbeck, a small village 30 mins west of Osnabruk, where my aunty, uncle and cousins live along the canal in a corn and wheat farming area.

On Friday, 26th July, we rode along the canal and went to NaturaGart - a nature garden with an aquarium and scuba diving centre.

On Saturday, 27th July, we went to Tecklenburg, a very old village where you have to stop and have cake at the cafe, and we also found a museum with very old motorcycles in which thrilled my husband.

It was interesting to see the old side cars and to see how pillon seats and hold on straps have developed over the years.

On Sunday, 28th July, we went out for brunch and afternoon tea with family. When we returned home we visited the neighbours who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.  We went to Germany in 2005 for my aunt and uncles 50th wedding anniversary and it was a great experience.  The day before the neighbours/family come round and decorate the front door with greenery and gold paper roses whilst they drink schnaps and beer, then they have a big dinner, lots of schnitzels and salads and cakes.  The next day is the celebration of the anniversary with a church mass and dinner, the third day is when the neighbours/family come over again to eat the leftover food.  It's a great event esp since people stay in the same house forever and they know the neighbours - this tradition just wouldn't work in Australia.

On Monday, 29th July, we were very sad to leave my aunt and uncles house as it was great to see them again - they have now been married 58 years!!! And they took such good care of us - I think I put on 5 kgs in 3 days that took me 3 months to get rid of!!  We headed for Rotterdam to catch the ferry to Hull and then Leeds where we had to leave the Ducati motorbike behind to be serviced and just in time as we were having trouble with the bike that we were worried we wouldn't make it.

At the moment we are in Keswick in the Lake District of England, we will be picking the bike up tomorrow/Friday and head to York.

Hope all is going well with you.  Good night!
