DLP Wk 22 Houses

Documented Life Project - May 24, 2014 - Week 22 Challenge - Draw, paint or sketch a house.

I used a gelli print for the background, trees and roofs of the houses, the house and the sun I found in my happy mail box.  I gave the background a watercolour wash and I stamped on the pendants and coloured them in with Inktense pencils.

Wish We Were Neighbours

Art Journaling and DLP and J52

I have this sort of love/hate relationship with art journaling.  On the one hand I love the freedom of it, the fact that I can do what I want and really no one can criticize it as it's not for public consumption.  On the other hand the freedom can be paralyzing - where to start, what to do next and how to pull it all together so it's a cohesive piece. I am my own worst critic at times.... I can't seem to get the layering thing like some people can.....

And then there are the supplies....art journaling is mixed media at it's best
- journals
- paint - acrylic and watercolour,
- papers - lots of different sorts - old books, dictionaries, gelli prints
- glue/gel medium,
- stamps,
- stencils,
- gesso,
- inks,
- ephemera,
- sprays,
- pencils - normal, watercolour, Inktense,
- Gelatos (whatever they are!),
- rub-ons,
- pens - hard to get good ones that will write over all of the above!!!,
- brushes,
- scissors,
- punches,
- craft knife
- craft paper cutter - use mine all the time!

New Art Space

I've been busy setting up my new art space and have found that it's a great space for art journaling. There's nothing really special to show you about it  except that it's my space. (For a really great studio then check out Kelly Rae Roberts - esp her home studio on Instagram.  sigh....)  It was my eldest son's room but he's moved out so we put his bed in the attic and put up some shelves.  He left his chair behind as he doesn't like it and I'm borrowing the card table which isn't really suitable as it has a soft top.

I've also got all my paintings together....eeek....some need to be thrown out, some haven't been varnished and can be painted over....the 'good' paintings are hanging up around the house....

This space ^^^^ is upstairs...oh have I shown you our stairs....spiral staircase as you open the front door.....hate it....but to change it means we may have to move the front door.....it's difficult to get things up there so my paints and easel and gelli printing gear is in the downstairs room...

The downstairs room was chockers...choc-o-block full.... now I can get in there grab my stuff and take it to the kitchen where there's plenty of light, water and benchtops.

Here it is full...

So now I can pop upstairs for an hour or so and collage and art journal with my gelli prints and all the gorgeous happy mail that I've received.  I'll show you some art journal pics tomorrow.

Thank you for NOT pinning the above pics to Pinterest. Ta, Mxxx

DLP Wk 20 Stamps

Documented Life Project - Week 20 Challenge - Use a rubber stamp in a new way.

I used a rubber stamp under a gelli print and over a gelli print as well as on the page.

I was inspired by the latest art journaling craze of painted circles except I cut mine out of gelli prints, glued them down, used paint pen and Inktense Pencils to create lines around them.

I'm trying to be looser and freer in my journaling and not so uptight perfectionisty...so if you think this looks a little slap dash...then my job here is done!  :D

Gelli Print Hand for Journal52

Journal 52 - Week 18 - Creative Hands

I found a gelli print I liked and cut it out and glued it down to my journal then added the white and gold paint and the lyrics from Jewel's Hands song.

Hands by Jewel
If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
It didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn't ever after
We'll fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
'Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
I am never broken
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
We are never broken
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's mind
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's heart
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's eyes
We are God's hands
We are God's hands

Art Sale at Myattsfield Vineyard

Last weekend was the Bickley Harvest Festival and had my art on sale at Myattsfield Vineyard. Sales were disappointing but it was good to be able to show my gelli art.

Many thanks to my family and friends who came to see me and to those who bought my art.

The red dots are price labels not sold stickers...

Looks like I'll be starting up my etsy shop to try and sell some of these.....
