New Painting - Up North

This is a new mixed media painting I created today, and I was thinking about our vacation in the north of Western Australia last July in the Kimberley region - when we were on the Pentecost River looking at the Cockburn Ranges - I always loved the little 'lollipop' trees on the top of the ranges.

Up North, mixed media, 30cm x 60cm, 12" x 24"

Beverley Art Exhibition

Today, June and I went took our paintings to Beverley, a small country town about an hour or so away, to enter them into the Beverly Art Exhibition which will be held over the Easter weekend.

I have entered Pink Confetti Trees (No.2 not my original one):

Here's a few photos of interesting parts of the town:

At the entrance you'll see a Vampire Jet No. A79-638. This aircraft was a two-seat trainer. Australia built almost two hundred of this type.

Beverley Station Gallery - Built in 1886 in the Victorian Tudor style, the Beverley Railway Station was the hub of activity when Beverley was an important stop on the Perth to Albany passenger line. Closed in October 1984, the Railway Station fell into disrepair, but after much hard work by both the community and council was beautifully restored in 2006.

Terra Morphis Quadriptych

Terra - Land

Morphis - changing shapes

Quadriptych - also called a tetraptych, a group of four images together in a linear manner or arrangement.

My eldest son, Ben, named my latest paintings which are a set of four paintings which look great together and I would love to sell them as a set and not individually.  You will need about 2.5m of wall space to hang them.  :D

Terra Morphis, The Changing Shape of the Land, Mixed Media Quadriptych, 227cm x 61cm

Here they are individually:
Terra Morphis 1, Mixed Media, 30cm x 30cm, 12" x 12"

Terra Morphis 2, Mixed Media, 46cm x 46 cm, 18" x 18"

Terra Morphis 3, Mixed Media, 61cm x 61cm, 24" x 24"

Terra Morphis 4, Mixed Media, 92cm x 61cm, 36" x 24"

Many thanks to everyone at the Neil Elliott Mixed Media/Abstract Painting Work - Neil, thank you for your inspiration, assistance, and encouragement, congrats on the wedding coming up this weekend, and to the other ladies for their praise and encouragement.  I not only had a great time each Wednesday but learnt so much from Neil and the other ladies.

Six Obsessions on Saturday

1.  I'm obsessed with alliteration - it started with {sunday snippets} and Shell's Sunday Snippets, Six Thoughts on Saturday or Sunday if I didn't get round to it on Saturday, Six Pix on Saturday and now Six Obsessions on Saturday.

2. I'm obsessed with sewing patterns in my art - created another one today...

3.  I'm obsessed with this colour scheme and with using my brayer roller to apply paint - Atelier Red Gold, Atelier Prussian Blue, Golden Fluid Acrylics - Green gold and Phalo Turquoise and white.  Have used it in these three paintings and it even looks different with this newer painting.

4.  I'm obsessed with this background that I showed you the other day - I took it to a friend's house yesterday and she saw it differently to me - so now I see it so many ways, including upside down that I don't want to add anymore to it - just want to give it some clever name and sell it.

Sunburnt Country or Unchartered Territory or Coast....

5.  I'm obsessed with Silhouette Storybooks - a picture paints a thousand words - so what story does this painting tell you.... (and yes, I made that name up!!!)

6.  I'm obsessed with Forestville on my iPad but ssshhhh don't tell my hubby...

Are you obsessed with anything lately?

Workshop Wednesday

Neil Elliott has extended his workshop for another 2 weeks of mixed media fun, well, I couldn't wait until today so I got started over the weekend with some larger canvases and yesterday I  played with some experimental little-uns/minis/8"x8" and today I painted them - some need more detail...

I chose owls to put onto the minis and did them all differently...and they may have changed by the end of the week too...

Which owl do you like the best???

Batman Owl - a tribute to Neil as he has painted characters with batman masks on them.... hehehe...

If you like owls then check out Deborah Velasquez, Nellie Windmill, Juliette Crane and My Owl Barn -who provided the inspiration for my owls.

The larger canvases now have colour... still not too sure what I'm going to do with them...

Flora's Workshop - One Year On

Wow, I can't believe it's been a year since I went to Flora Bowley's  Bloom True Painting Workshop at Nanga, Dwellingup, Western Australia. It was one of the best things I ever did for myself and my art and was so life changing for me. Flora is an awesome teacher, very positive and so inspiring.  Her technique is very intuitive and there's lots of layering, being bold and letting go to let your painting bloom. I also met some great ladies who's work has also blossomed and they are having exhibitions and furthering their art education. After going to this workshop I have had more courage to explore my art, teach, do painting demonstrations, enter exhibitions, go to more workshops including one overseas. It was such a great experience I would love to go to another one of her workshops - maybe one of those week long workshops in Mexico or Italy....sigh...

Read the original post about the weekend here.  Check out the pages above for more pics.

Here are a few pics of Flora and my paintings over the past year.

Flora Bowley Painting Workshop

House paintings

Vase/Flower paintings

Girly paintings

Confetti Tree paintings
If you ever get the chance to go to one of Flora's workshops, do her online course or buy her book then I highly recommend that you go for it.

Mean Girl - Enemy No: 1

Dear Mean Girl,

You are that nasty voice inside my head that lies to me - my inner critic.
You tell me that I am ugly, unworthy, unsuccessful, untalented, uncreative and not artistic.
You tell me that people will laugh at my paintings, and that they are not good enough to sell, that no one will buy them, so why waste my time painting them.
You are wrong and it is time for you to stop.
I will not be listening to you anymore.
Please leave my head.
Signed, Me

Mean Girl, Mixed Media, 61cm x 76cm or 24" x 30"

Dear You,

You are beautiful, brave and bold.
You are strong, successful and confident.
You are worthy of love, happiness and friendship.
You are artistic, creative and talented.
You are a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
You light up the world with your smile and laughter.
You are blessed.
Big love and bear hugs
from the Nice Girl
inside your heart.
Nice Girl, Mixed Media, 61cm x 76cm or 24" x 30"

I finished the Girls today at the painting workshop and am pleased with them even though the mean girl inside me points out all their imperfections.  When I'm able to be parted with them they'll be sold together as a diptych.

I also finished this abstract I've been working on - I rarely do totally abstract works and I really love the colours in this one.  A challenge for further works is to use a monochromatic or neutral colour scheme - something which I may have mentioned months ago.
Under the Sea, Mixed Media, 61cm x 61cm

How does the mean girl affect your life?  Does she have a name?  One blogger calls her Polly...
